Wyse Released Version 4 of Wyse TCX Suite
Wyse last month released the latest version of its Wyse TCX suite, version 4.0. This new version according to Wyse is more comprehensive in that it seamlessly work with VMware View, Microsoft Terminal services, Citrix XenDesktop and Citrix XenApp. TCX suite also features a Collaborative Processing Architecture (CPA) an intelligent architecture which divides the workload between the client and the server.
When we first deployed a virtual desktop solution in our organization it was tricky, because we had to promise our staff that they will not be losing anything be giving up their PC. It was tough to start with, because Wyse TCX was about a year away, but we had a plan on how we were going to do it (see 6 steps to implement VDI), which was okay for a while until we move to the power users. Wyse TCX came when we were trying to sell VDI to our power users, it did help us to win over some of the power users. It does seem to help with those staffs that were use to watching their BBC and CNN video clips – even though it was better on their PC. The previous version work better with media content that was located on the local drive of the virtual client.
Wyse promise better performance in this latest version, they said it is more Flash aware and has Flash acceleration capabilities. Users of Windows internet Explorer 7 and 8 can watch Flash media without having the Flash plug-in installed. This version also supports XenDesktop and HDX on Wyse client platforms.
So what will you get for $35 per virtual client:
- Support for Avaya SoftPhone and Elluminate applications
- Enhancing core media redirection with H.264/MP4 part 10 and MS MP4 part 2 v3 (DivX 3.1) support.
- High fidelity audio over high latency links
- Windows Taskbar on primary monitor
- WMV multicast support with UR or infrastructure modification
