Acquisitions and more Acquisitions

I was going through the different News feeds that come into this site and it just dawned me the amount of acquisitions I have read about within the last few months. So I decided I would do a quick search on the web for some of the acquisitons that have taken place within the last 15 months. Below is a list of some of the head lines I found about virtualization.

  1. Oracle Acquires Empirix e-TEST Suite Products
  2. Brocade Beefs Up Services With VAR Acquisition
  3. Microsoft expands its virtualization vision with Kidaro acquisition
  4. Virtualization - BMC Buys BladeLogic
  5. Web Hosting Applications Firm, Parallels, Acquires ModernBill ...
  6. Microsoft buys virtualization tool for help with Vista
  7. Another look at VMware's VMsafe with Blue Lane and Catbird
  8. Keep It Quiet, But Parallels Acquired ModernGigabyte
  9. Novell Acquires PlateSpin For $205 Million
  10. CRI Technologies Inc. Raises $10 Million in Series A Funding
  11. Citrix to buy virtualization company XenSource...
  12. EMC's $635 million acquisition of VMware
  13. Dell To Buy EqualLogic For $1.4 Billion, Shakes...
  14. Sun Completes Acquisition of Pirus Networks.

  16. Veritas will pay $59 million in cash to acquire Ejasent Inc.
  17. HEWLETT-PACKARD.... grabbing storage virtualization tools with its acquisition of StorageApps

All of these acquisitions reminds me of something I read which said "by 2010 almost half of all severs in very large business will be virtualized". So could it be that all the major suppliers are postioning themselves for Armageddon. I am not implying that any of these companies are evil, far from it. But, anyone that eventually become the major supplier of virtualization technologies stand the make a lot of money.
