Wyse and IBM to Collaborate on Thin Client Infrastructure
Wyse has announced that they will be collaborating with IBM through their Virtual Infrastructure Access service. Wyse is already a global leader in thin computing solutions will work with IBM Global Services division – also a world leader in IT services.
"Wyse has been a customer of IBM for some time, but this is a much more formal relationship," David Angwin, director of marketing for Wyse EMEA”.
Wyse has been at the forefront of virtual desktop for the past 3-4 years and have developed new software and devices specifically for the VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure). One application; is Wyse TCX technology which boost the performance of multimedia and power hungry application running on a virtual desktop.
"We produce hardware products like the thin-client terminals, but we also have some expertise in thin-client software," Angwin said. "We have products that work with VoIP systems, streaming technology and in many other areas, all optimised for thin clients."
The devices could go for about £170-£180 at the low end, and £400-£500 at the high end. The use of thin computing technology can greatly reduce the cost of owning and support a physical PC considering majority of user only use about 15% of the resources on their system.
