ST-Ericsson and Infineon Selected VirtualLogix VLX for Mobile Chipsets

VirtualLogix’s VLX virtualization software for mobile handsets was selected by ST-Ericsson for its new low cost Android-Ready smartphone platform, Infineon Technologies Mobile handsets.  ST-Ericsson and VirtualLogix are in the second year of their partnerhip in incorporating VLX into ST-Ericsson reference platform. VirtualLogix has also confirmed that, working with Infineon they have successfully integrate and test VLX software with an Infineon mobile handset reference platform.

According to VirtualLogix “VLX virtualization software allows simultaneous operation of a high-level operating system (Android) and a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS), thus enabling easier development of value-added smartphone functionalities on lower cost mobile handsets platforms.”

By embedding VLX into mobile handsets users will be able to do more with their mobile phones; mobile phone suppliers can offer more services to customers. Also the user experience will be richer, because of the wider range of entertainment to choose from.

“The new software architecture allows reuse of infineon’s leading dual-mode cellular protocol stack almost entirely unchanged, at the same time preserving our OEM customers’ investments in their existing software.” Said Stefan Wolff Vice President of the Wireless Solutions Division and General Manager of the Smartphone and RF business at Infineon.

ST-Ericsson is also working on the Open Screen project with Adobe to embed Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR into its mobile phone chips.
