Leaostream this month announced the release of version 6.4 of its Leostream Connection Broker. The new version offers management flexibility, greater support and branding control to hosted virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) for will known vendors and for hosted applications and sessions, dedicated blades, physical desktops and other systems.  Other changes include the support of Microsoft SQL 2008 and more flexibility for resource assignment.

Sun Ray is Oracle VDI solution for companies that are looking for thin client solutions. The Sun Rays offers a lower footprint than a standard desktop with power consumption as low as 4 watt.

More than a year ago I wrote why I think Small and medium-size business (SMB) are not adapting virtualization, like the big spending organizations. Among the reasons I gave was about Microsoft not being in a position to offer a mature and cost effective solution and the current cost of the technology at the time. VirtualLogix’s VLX virtualization software for mobile handsets was selected by ST-Ericsson for its new low cost Android-Ready smartphone platform, Infineon Technologies Mobile handsets.  ST-Ericsson and VirtualLogix are in the second year of their partnerhip in incorporating VLX into ST-Ericsson reference platform. VirtualLogix has also confirmed that, working with Infineon they have successfully integrate and test VLX software with an Infineon mobile handset reference platform.

Citrix and Novell have agreed to collaborate on Linux Virtualization platform through the virtualization compatibility program from Novell.  Novell has certified Citrix Xenserver as a host platform for it SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.  The partnership means that customers who want to run SUSE Linux as a guest on XenServer can do so with the assurance that they will get support from both Novell and Citrix. Both companies said the collaboration will expand the choice for customers through increase virtualization interoperability.

Dolby Laboratories has launch Dolby Media Generator, a new Media software and has announced that they are collaborating with Omnifone to use the new media format for Omnifone’s cloud based services.  Omnifone will be using Dolby’s Media Generator encoding software to encode its entire global music catalogue of 6.5 million tracks into the Dolby Pulse file format.
