Citrix and Microsoft Extend Desktop Virtualization Partnership

Citrix Systems and Microsoft have expanded their desktop virtualization partnership to develop an application that enable enterprise customers to manage all Windows desktops and applications through a common platform.

The companies will combine Citrix XenApp application virtualization and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager that to enable organizations to manage distributed and centrally hosted applications. They will also combine Microsoft's App-V product with Citrix's Receiver and Dazzle offerings. In addition they will extend integration of Citrix's XenDesktop with Microsoft's VDI Suite to upgrade their joint virtual desktop infrastructure offering.

Brad Anderson, general manager of Microsoft's management and services division, said: "Citrix and Microsoft are taking steps to deliver seamless application and desktop virtualization solutions by helping companies maximize their existing technology investments. For customers using System Center Configuration Manager and XenApp, this connector will provide deeper control of their virtualization infrastructure, lower costs by reusing existing infrastructure and simplify administration."

In February Citrix extended its partnership with Microsoft in the server virtualization market with the launch of Citrix Essentials for Microsoft Hyper-V.
