XP Mode not Possible on Some Intel and AMD Chips

In an effort to keep some customers, happy Microsoft recently announced that the new version on Microsoft Windows – Windows 7 will run in XP mode; Allowing businesses with application that can only run on XP to have to benefit of the application running newer hardware. Sounds like a great idea, but according to the The Enquirer some Intel and AMD chips will not support this mode.

Over the last 2-3 years Intel and AMD have developed chipsets that will improve the performance of systems running on their Intel-VT and AMD-V chip technology – see RVI-Enabled CPU Increase Performance.

“Apparently whilst the newer mobile Intel CPU chips are VT enabled, many of the older, Core 2 Duo mobile chips like the T6400/6570, P7350/7450 and T5200/5250/5270/5300/5450/5470 don't support it.”

AMD was the latter to announce the incompatibility of their chips with the Windows 7 XP mode solution.
"With the exceptions of Sempron-branded processors and Turion K8 Rev E processors, all notebook processors shipped by AMD include AMD-V and therefore support Windows 7 XP mode, AMD noted, adding that in the desktop space only Sempron-branded processors and pre-Rev F Athlon branded processors would not support XP mode. All Opteron processors, claimed AMD, would include AMD-V and thereby would support XP mode.”
